This male pileated woodpecker has been hanging around the house as of late. We hear another one in the area and it may be a female. I would love it if they nested near us.
We had been enjoying sunny days with temps in the 50's, but last night, winter came back to Nuthatch Hill. I don't think I will be planting anything in the garden for a while since the beds are covered with a foot of ice. I hope the worms have survived!
Steve and Klanncy came home yesterday after a 6 week stay in CA. The pup is huge! At least half Cali's size and he's only 3 months old. Here he's busy watching the digging pro. Cali is already teaching him some bad habits.
Yesterday we hiked up the hill behind our house to check on the logging progress. The work appears finished for now. They took out a lot of nice trees and really opened up the view.
The size of the slash piles the loggers left is really impressive. It remains to be seen how they are going to dispose of these, but there's a lot of nice firewood here for someone if they are inclined to hike up and retrieve it.
...goes a long way. Our road is a muddy mess during the late afternoon and an icy hazard in the morning, but it's nice to see something other than white for a change. A high of 52 degrees yesterday enabled Cali to find her outside squeaky toy. It's been buried for months. Also exposed is her unlimited stick supply which has made her walks a lot more fun.
